Al Swift began his congressional career after working at KVOS TV in Bellingham, WA and serving as top aide to Representative Lloyd Meed. Once elected to Congress in 1978, Swift sat on the Energy and Commerce Committee, chaired its subcommittee on Transportation and Hazardous Materials, and served on the House Administration Committee and the Elections subcommittee.
